PROJECT//Binaam (feat. Rose Ranger) – Yadet Nareh Music Video.

CLIENT: BINAAM featuring ROSE RANGER
LYRICS: Yaghma Golrouee
MUSIC: Binaam
ARRANGEMENT: Sean Eyre
HAIR & MAKEUP: Envyme Studio

STARRING: Binaam, Sahra Khoshnavazi & Bobby Asgari

Directed/Edited by JAE YU for THREE PIECE MEDIA.

CHALLENGE: Take a Persian music video and make it contemporary (but keep the melodrama!).

Binaam is Vancouver’s own rising Persian singing sensation and we teamed up earlier this year to create this video. From the very beginning, he wanted something that mirrored the song: a traditional melody set to a very untraditional beat. With that kernel, we devised a plot and a plan. We’d keep all the staples of the typical Persian music video (the love triangle, destinies missed, tragic endings, etc) but tell it in a 21st century fashion. Take it out of the old country and set it in the urban city, from day to night, staged and slick to quick and gritty, a single screen to split screens. We think we made something pretty cool.

Featured as the top watched video for the week of Sept 30-Oct 5 on RADIOJAVAN, the number one hub for Persian music online with over 100,000 views.

PROJECT//Granville 2.010 Promotional Video.

CLIENT: Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association
MUSIC PROVIDED BY UHH (MYSPACE) (SOUNDCLICK)
NARRATION: Tito Deville (MYSPACE)
SOUND MIXING/RECORDING: Sam Re & Jeff Brotherston
VFX: Jaycee Hendriks

Written/Directed/Edited by JAE YU for THREE PIECE MEDIA.

CHALLENGE: To encapsulate everything that is GRANVILLE STREET (Vancouver’s main entertainment district) in thirty seconds.

Granville is street in transition. On one end, there’s the high class glitz of Holt Renfrew, the upscale dining of The Shore, the velvet roped entrance to The Republic. On the other end, there’s the seedy underbelly, the sex shops, the dive bars, the not-quite ready for prime-time performers that give Granville its unique soul. We decided to embrace the future with the past. To prove that Granville has something for everyone – whether that something is silly, strange or sexy.

Granville. Anything you want it to be.

Featured on the City of Vancouver’s official Granville Street website, Shop Granville, Vancity Buzz and many other Vancouver blogs.

To be played at Taiwanfest ’10 and other upcoming live venues.

PROJECT//Travellers Deck (Web Promotional Video)

Client: Travellers Deck
VFX: Bianca Desaulniers
Titling: Sung Seu (Martin)
Sound Recording & Mixing: Sam Re & Jeff Brotherston

Written/Directed/Edited by JAE YU for THREE PIECE MEDIA

CHALLENGE: Showcase what TRAVELLERS DECK is and how to use it in an instructional two minute video.

Travellers Deck is an entertainment guide, a savings/discount book and maps/directions to the five main neighborhoods of Vancouver — all in one deck of cards. As a relatively new concept, the challenge was to introduce all the main features of the product in a fun and friendly manner. Techniques like stop motion and split screen were used to give a playful and experimental feel to the video. Text overlays and spare narration were requested specifically to aid in future translations.

The finished product is currently featured on the client’s website and their link at Tourism Vancouver.

PROJECT//Dear Vancouver (My City).

CONTEST: Metro Newspaper’s METRO VIDEO CHALLENGE

RESULT: Canadian Finalist

Music by UHH (MYSPACE) (SOUNDCLICK)

Narrated/Written/Directed/Edited by JAE YU for THREE PIECE MEDIA

CHALLENGE: In under ninety seconds, create a short film using the theme of MY CITY.

Shot in two hectic days, whittled down from over 1000 photographs and 50 video clips.

It’s incredible to think that in all of our combined years we’ve never seen a video that truly represented what we love about Vancouver. The Vancouver we love is not the one on television. It’s the one in the streets. The alleys. The clubs. The people. It’s dirty. It’s grimy. But it’s soul. We made it our mission to show that Vancouver can be something other than natural wonderland that it obviously is. That it could be what we know, what we grew up with. That it could be cool.

Twenty thousand hits later, I think we might have hit a nerve.
